Registration: Privileged Access
The vast, vast majority of the content of my blog is created to amuse both myself and the faceless, nameless public. Content might range from inane and silly to (maybe) controversial and thought-provoking, but in any case they exist with the knowledge that anyone might stumble across it.
However, sometimes I like to restrict content to people I know. Sometimes there are things I like to voice and vent that I don’t want everyone to be able to stumble across. It could be due to sheer privacy practicalities (e.g. work-related entries) or just issues that I don’t want certain people to see. Being able to restrict access to certain entries gives me more freedom to have a controlled audience. There are certain people in real life that I don’t want to have access to some of my content. Privatising entries gives me the freedom to vent and rant without having the duty to entertain the audience.
Because of this, Registration is open to anyone. Anyone can sign up yet I ultimately assign who sees what. If you sign up, be sure that if you have a website, put it into your profile page. If I can see you’re a mature denizen of the net whom I recognise, I’d probably give you the access.
I make no allusions to restricted content being good. In fact, a lot of it would be probably of the personal/angsty sort, or gross and silly. By registering you run the risk of seeing boring and or TMI entries.
Most people who visit this blog once or twice would not be bothered to register and I’m fine with that. Heck, 99% of all entries are absolutely public anyway. I guess registration allows those who want a more indepth insight into my rare, private outbursts. Oh and on a more practical note, registered users would never risk having their comments moderated and don’t have to put in their details when they comment. Neato. :P
