Silkroad

God I *love* this new layout, I have so much fun pull the little tag on the side. All credit goes to 5thirtyone design! I was getting sick of the last layout and I figure that I’ll guilt-trip myself into making a new layout by having a free one up. :D I’ll get to it eventually!

Anyway, I wanted to mention Silkroad, a free online MMORPG that has been occupying my time recently. It’s pretty fun (though the download is pretty big). I love the idea of being a character set in a time where nations started trading with Asia via the Silkroad. The prosperity of China at that time was (probably) as interest as the glory of ancient Rome and Greece. And you have the advantage of playing as a character that fight mythical Chinese monsters with lots of flashy magic! :D

And OMG there are all these books I have on my bookshelf that I totally forgotten I’ve bought! Pride and Prejudice! The Da Vinci Code (read)! Great Expectations! I think I’ll start reading the latter… I have nothing less than… great expectations for the book. *ba-dum tsh!*

And in other news…

Anyone here who had a subscriber feature on their wordpress blog, does anyone use any plugins that separate different “levels” of subscribers in accessing certain posts? I’m currently (well not CURRENTLY currrently, I’m at work atm :P) looking into Role Manager and while the features are pretty awesome I don’t know what setting to put for posts; should it be “public” with the restrictions edited or private? Either way I tried tested a filtered post and it either shows all or only to the admin (myself). Or has any one else got alternative tips or plugins they use? Any help appreciated!

Hmm I haven’t been feeling too good lately, there has been negative factors that had sprung up on me. One of them is Uni marks. While the marks aren’t bad result for some and while I’m not terribly depressed about it… it nonetheless disappoints me. Ah well, there’s nothing one can do better next semester. :P I’m glad to see that people liked the previous post, that’s just the tip of the iceberg of what was taught in Psychopathology. Psychology itself is really interesting!

Suddenly everyone is raving about Vox recently. It does look good and I’m curious about it’s functions but alas, no invite for me. :P

P.S. Ack, change in using elastics in my braces hurts my teeth so much… can barely chew soft food! Gah… can’t wait till I get my braces off (though that’ll be around May 2007 -_-’).

Edit: Thanks to Felicia I have a Vox account now! *is a conformity sheep*

Site structure?

So I was typing up this pretty awesome lengthy post right? As I was re-reading through it, my computer kinda went *click click, screen goes black*

… o.o

*restarts itself*

YOU BASTARD! *shakes fist* So anyway a crummy condensed version of what my would-be entry question: for the site designers out there, why do you structure the way you do, and why? For the site surfers (everyone!) what structure do you prefer?

What I mean is this: do you prefer content to be split into specific sites catering to that type of content (e.g. a tutorial site, a photo site, a blog, a review site) tied together via a collective portal (like Janice’s collective), or would your rather have content all sectioned off in one site (like Rosmarie’s site)?

I’m thinking of POSSIBLY reshaping my domain… but I’m scared to touch iNET’s main layout, it’s been up for so long, who knows what might happen if I take it off, the world as we know might end. :P

P.S. Updated (finally)! :D

Guess I should start on a new post…

Well University has started. Been a busy week, with Uni on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and work experience on Tuesdays and Friday. Though it’s relieving that I only have 12 hours of University this semester. The subjects I’m taking are:
- Constitutation Law
- Property Law
- Psychopathology

Yes, ironically, it would hopefully be the interestingness of the latter subject to help me keep my sanity.

So yes, not much work on this place I’m afraid, but I’m working on it. The very static page containing the age old posts of yore (repetitive much?) is up. Guess I can’t put off the ACTUAL content for much longer eh? :P

Tada… =_=

Gah so sleepy… tis 3.30am at the moment and I’ve been rushing for the past few days, with any available time I had, to get this done. First of all, I’d like to say… *clears throat*:

SCREW YOU WORDPRESS!!!

I had no idea, NO IDEA, that it was going to be this complicated. I had wanted an archive page, but NOOOO there was none! I suppose it was my own stupidity that I was trying to figure out WHY archives.php and archive.php lead to a 404. I’m boggled that the fact that the word “TEMPLATE” that was apparent in the codex pages didn’t ring a bell after a good five FRUITLESS hours.

Anyway, I only deleted the “brb” index.html page because Fiona threatened ominous tidings if I weren’t to get the layout out and about ASAP. So here it is. I… am too tired to talk about it at the moment, I just want to apologise for the overt girlness and the colours used. Explanation when I’m more awake.

In fact, none of the pages are up. You can check, all you get is lots of Latin. :P I figure if I have them up and just sitting there in public, it would motivate me to update/start them. But too sleepy now.

Currently I need dire help in how to:

  1. Create an archive index. This page doesn’t help too much as I’m on wp 2.0.1 now and there isn’t the dropdown mention in the “Custom Field” bit.
  2. How to customise catergory links. This tag allows lists but for some reason, the lists can’t be classesd/ided. I need the list style to match the archive list, but I have no clue how to go about it.
  3. Why does IE show such a huge gap on the top of the layout?! It doesn’t do that in firefox, I fixed it with margin-top. I shoved it into a validator and while the html/css is NOT VALID the things I left out are like background colours and alt tags which I may fill in at a later time. DAAAAMMMNNN YOOOU IE!

Any help would be much appreciated!

There is still much to do and hopefully significant changes and updates would be seen in the next few days. I still need to edit the comments box and somehow get rid of the category listed under all the pages. Please tell me if there are any huge errors. For now, sleep! Stay tuned!

Was out most of the day (watched Ring 2, certainly not as scary as the first, less coherency methinks) to get fees paid and braces tightened so didn’t get to work on site much. Sleepy for most of the day. The comments css has been edited. Thanks Rose for the code, but it didn’t work. When I made a page with the coding, put it into the main folder, it just appears as the index page. Putting it into the themes folder itself totally didn’t work. Thanks though! Contents still not up. Have work tomorrow, hopefully I’ll get a start on it tomorrow though.

-Edit 02- 25/02
Whahaha! Take that IE! The margin problem has been fixed though I still had no idea what the problem was. There shouldn’t have been! Since I gave up scouring my coding for inconsistences, I dug up a much older draft of the header and footer than weren’t screwed up in IE. All I did was copy and paste the code into the relevant current header and footer and for some freaking reason, it fixes the IE problem. Stupid browser. -.-’ The easiest to do section, etc, is up.
