Comments on: Yay Musicals: Oliver!

I’ve never watched Oliver! but that is a lot of violence for a G rating! Kind of makes me angry, but then I remember watching my first PG-13 movie and the things I didn’t understand just whizzing past my head. I guess that’s what the censors thought would happen with Oliver! and kids watching the movie.

When I was in junior high I worked a lot of stage plays and musicals in stage crew, and Oliver was the last musical I worked. It was a huge thing in my hometown – all the schools in the district worked together on it and everyone went. I guess I realized it was kind of a brutal musical but you don’t really think about it because it’s a musical. I dunno, I think people are paranoid way more these days though about violence in movies – it’s not really that there was less violence back then, but just that parents are almost overly paranoid today.
