Changes
Life February 15th, 2008I don’t like change in environments that I expect to be stable. One of them is my home. Two weeks ago, my mum announced that we’re going to have a family friend coming over from China and staying with us indefinitely as she studies at UNSW. I use “family friend” very loosely because I’ve never heard of her prior to this announcement.
She arrived yesterday. Her name is Sarah, 23 and doesn’t know any English and so will be spending a couple of months doing a language course before starting her University degree. I’m expected to show her around… Sydney, I guess. She seems pretty nice and friendly, and I guess it’s a good opportunity to practice my Cantonese, which currently sucks balls. Since she has no furniture, I was obliged to give up my crafting table to her as well as my bed, though that means I get the spare double bed… whoo!
Next week, my great-aunt and great-uncle will be visiting here for a three week vacation. They’d be living with us for a while, which means I’d have to share a room with my mum and hence have to sleep when my mother does so not to disturb her with my interneting (she’s a light sleeper). The worst part is, I’m definitely expected to show the oldies around, pretend I’m enjoying myself, being friendly etc. Fark. So for the next few weeks, there’s going to be seven people living in my house, three of which I don’t care for at all. Bah humbug.
In other news, this was the Valentine’s Day card I got from Tim (cover and inside; click for a bigger version):

I lol’ed pretty hard when I first read it. The boner reference comes from this Cracked article regarding bad Bond puns, in particular boner reference no.3. I loved how the context of the line ties in with the cover of the card. Also, my 14 year old brother apparently received three red roses from three different girls, two of which he gave away and one that he took home (roses, not the girls). I guess he’s popular with the ladies? O_o

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Belinda! I have missed reading your blog. Everyone seems to be in sort of hiatus, aren’t they? What an amusing card, but so many family members over… I’d go insane, ha.
That card is awesome. I need to find out what range it is so I can buy my cards from it.
Meanwhile, the boner comments remind me of this series about the Joker. And boners.
I had to rephrase that because I really didn’t want it to get caught in your spam.
I love that card, it’s hilarious :D
Aw at your brother. That’s adorable. Saying that, when my brother starts receiving Valentine’s gifts and having girlfriends I’m going to be unimpressed; no matter how old he gets, I’m still going to think he’s too young. Good luck with the relatives!
I liked the “P.S I love you” at the end. :)
Aw, that’s a cute card, even with the boner reference… true love XD
I’m sorry to read about all those changes at home, that kind of instability can have negative repercussions (I know, I just had to move in with my grandparents, where I now share a tiny room with my mom, etc; since I moved everything including things out of the house and at school have been crazy.)
I hope this doesn’t turn out wrong, and that you can bare with your relatives without it causing too much stress.
lol@boners. charming!!
Aww… seeing lovey dovey stuff from other people makes me giddy. XD Did he make the card himself?
Heh, one reason why I’m glad to be away from home for a while: no strangers in my room! My parents have all sorts of visitors from plumbers to exterminators to business partners, and I’m never informed so I just walk out in my lounging clothes looking like a drag and embarrass myself. T_T
I endure the same trials of fortitude and patience when my relatives visit us. The worst part is that you cannot hole yourself in your room, because it’s been donated to the cause of a distant relative (or worse, family friend)’s comfort. Good luck.
Your blog is more straight forward than the other Viva Forever blog by another young lady in Australia.
Happy Sunday!
Sometimes, I wonder why I bother to invite my sister to stay overnight when I know that my room will end up topsy-turvy the very next day. It’s not like she helps me clean up afterwards! >_>
Anyway, I wish you luck (and patience :P) with dealing with your new housemates.
Oh gosh, I feel your pain. I do. But I’d rather have people in my own home than have to go to someone else’s who I don’t like. But still, it’s annoying to have so many people… *Shudders*
I never liked James Bond. Frankly, a guy who seems like he sleeps with all the women he’s met doesn’t seem to appealing, lol. But the card is rather amusing~
Wow, three roses from three different girls, haha~
Aw what a nice card! Simple and sweet! I received a card with more writing; still sweet but not as sweet as yours. :P I’m jealous!
Dayyyyyum your popular brother!
Hahaha! Oh my goodness. See, now that’s my kind of Valentine’s day card. Nothing mushy gushy, no “omg I can’t breeeeeathe when im around u, ur all my wurld!!” crap. It’s short, funny, and I love how he kept the “I love you” for the PS.
That sucks about the house visitors.. but I’m confident that it will turn out to be a great experience for you. :) Like you said, you’ll get to practice your Cantonese, and at the very very least, you’ll learn to appreciate having the house just to yourself and your family. :P
