Exams are over!
Life, Online November 27th, 2007‘Allo. Exams are now over and I’ve been just chilling, not doing too much.
Things I’m doing/planning to do:
- Finish Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell Susanna Clarke. I’m currently in 56 pages into the book, with about 950 pages left and it’s been a delight to read! A fantasy book with a touch of humour, very interestingly written without being convoluted and a clever world set in 1807 England where magic exists. It’s been so long it feels, since I’ve read a book for enjoyment rather than for university.
- Finish Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, read by Stephen Fry. Good time to be knitting while listening.
- Finish Neverwinter Nights 2. :D
- Play Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Trials and Tribulation.
- Watch a bunch of anime I downloaded, namely Code Geass, Blood+ and NANA
- Pick up crocheting/knitting again… though bah, it’s going to be the middle of summer so it’ll probably be little things.
- Do something about my sites. =_=
- Maybe meet up with Amanda when she visits for a holiday?
- HAVE FUN! WHOOOOO!
Oh yeah. And finding a job.
And now for the tidbit of the day, “understanding web design”. I’m not a design student, but hey I like reading things relating to the internets and I had a high opinion of a lot of the articles offered by A List Apart (and still do for many of their practical guides to tweaking CSS and layouts). However, their article on understanding web design was incredibly disappointing in how general and vague it is. This thread on metafilter is hilarious and insightful in pointing out the article’s problems, especially this breakdown.
Basically it seems to be saying, good designs are both functional yet distinctive. ORLY???? -_-

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Your exams are over just as mine begin. Haaaaaaa… *dies*
Oh no! Good luck with them!!
I’m very much looking forward to what your opinion of both Code Geass and Nana would be. Both are rather… controversial series (especially Geass) and I always get 11 opinions out of 10 people for them. Nothing beats an insightful watcher and reader in that sense, hehe ;)
Enjoy your holidays wee! :D
I’ve seen the first episode of Code Geass and eh… it’s so far not been my cup of tea. Very pretty (yay CLAMP) but a bit too political for my tastes. But I’ve heard so much good stuff about it, I thought I’d give it a longer try.
I’d just love to read a book for pleasure sometime…if you finish that Susanna Clarke novel and the end is as good as you’ve made the beginning out to be, make sure you tell us!
Sadly, the school filters have blocked metafilter, so I can’t see how the article’s been picked apart. But I think we can all agree that there are certain times when the 1337 of anything, be it webdesign or music (*sneezes in the direction of Pitchfork*) sometimes give up trying to say something useful and end up falling back on abstractions and hoping their postmodern hipster awesomeness will pull them through, no questions asked. Something along the lines of, “I wrote a book — don’t argue!” and then waving around his EXPERT sword to make sure people listen.
Then again, at least he’s got academic writing down pat. Would that I could master that style before college.
I will surely speak more about the book if I am to ever finish it! :D
And yes, boo to nonsensical pretentiousness. :P
I have three weeks left still…my first dead week is coming up. Exciting. I feel halfway stressed out already, but then again I’m easily stressed out. I don’t even have that much to deal with, really. Calculus final should be interesting, but the rest I’m not turribly wurried about. Mostly of my problem is this positively juvenile English final I’ve been working on…and the accompanying presentation I have to give. I fall into sweaty pieces when I have to do public speaking. Should be exciting, anyway…
Other things: Stephen Fry is neat, I always wanted to try Neverwinter Nights, I haven’t watched anime forever (not since I stopped watching Adult Swim, I wonder what they’re showing now), I’ve heard of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, but I don’t know anything about it. Maybe I should look into it, my interest is slightly piqued…
I actually like calculus… to a point where everything got too difficult for me to understand. Eww to public speaking! I never managed to be comfortable with that, even with lots of practice in high school. Good like with your exams!
By maybe meet up, I really really hope you mean definitely meet up. I’ve bought the tickets, so I’ll be in Sydney 7th, 8th, and 9th…
How did your exams go? And Tim’s honours results?
My exams… went, but no results yet. Tim’s honours results were fabulous IMO, with only a few marks away from a first class honours but him and his high standards meant that he was quite devestated by the mark. :P He has interviews for his next leg of learning, for masters courses and such.
And yes we should meet! Those dates sound good, I don’t have anything on those days. We could have lunch and/or dinner?
Almost first class honours and the boy’s upset? Smack him a few times! :P
Lunch and/or dinner sounds great. :) I’m hoping to get Xuan and Tracey up to Sydney during that weekend too (if only for a day), so it’ll be great to have a bit of an Internet get together. :)
Congrats for getting through! When do you get the results? Hope you get to do all the stuff on your list! It would be nice to see a new crocheted slug :)
I actually don’t know when the results are coming out, but should be within the month or such. I DON’T WANT THE RESULTS, wah I bet I did terribly. :(
Hee! Yay crochet. :3 Did you stop playing around with it again?
Unfortunately, maybe this Christmas vacation I’ll start it again properly :)
I hope you actually get those things done! I rarely do anything productive in the summer.
It feels weird to be thinking about summer when it’s freezing cold right here…
Given that it’s the Australian Summer it’s bound to get SUPER HOT over here!
Yay for end of exams! Finally blogging again Belinda!
“I’m not a design student” – you do seem to have a natural flair for design though. Even today, the main immortalised.net both inspires and frustrates me (because I don’t have that talent). I would like to see your take on what web design is, if you get bored and need blog fodder perhaps.
I loved Johnathon Strange & Mr. Norrell. I found it really hard to get into, but once I was about 200 pages in I could not put it down.
You’re the first person I know who has read Jonathon Strange! Please email me or something! I’d love to talk about it! It’s the best book ever! I hope you finish it!
I hope you ace your exams! :D
Oooh congrats on finishing exams! (I’m late, yes …) =] I was going to continue with that book, but then the laziness set in. Heh. And you have OotP on audio book? Whoooo …
FUN FTW!
