Fatigue
Life, Watched August 15th, 2007Time is passing WAY WAY too quickly. Already three weeks into university?! WTF?
I’ve been getting really tired lately. And by lately, I mean it’s been like this for at least a year or two. Sure I sleep late, but I’m fortunately able to sleep in the next morning for most days of the week. I think I average about 8-9 hours of sleep which should be more than enough. And yet, I’m so drowsy during the day (even with a cup of coffee) and taking naps has been much too easy in the afternoons once classes are over. I don’t exercise too much, but I walk around a lot to and from my campus and the shopping complex nearby and I play my share of DDR, so I’m not a COMPLETE slug. My diet is okay, I try to eat something fruity everyday (whether it be orange juice or a fruit salad) and I try to avoid very fatty foods. I don’t often eat snacky foods either. When I sleep, I get vivid dreams all the time and I sometimes wake up all jittery and tired. Major suckage.
I watched Marie Antoinette the other day, and there’s only one word I could think of to describe it: empty. Oh yes, it was very pretty with all the beautiful costumes (and pastry!) but storyline-wise… it was slow and… lacking. It was really hard not to get bored during some sequences. It seems like the director focused so heavily on stylising the movie, they forgot about plot, dialogue and characterisation. Marie Antoinette was actually quite a remarkable historical figure and all the movie seemed to portray is her being bored, superficial and… empty.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I heard that you were supposed to get 7.5 hours of sleep a night or rather that you were supposed to sleep in 90 minutes and that if you slept eight hours you’d feel tired because you’d just begun a new sleep cycle only to have it cut off – but, this information may be dubious so…
I still haven’t seen the MA movie. I was excited about it a year before it came out. Now, I have it and the soundtrack and yet… I have these books on MA that I want to read first and even though the reading isn’t dull – I haven’t been able to get through it. But, I seem to love everything about French royals so, despite the film being empty and her seeming empty… I’ll probably love it.
Do you think your fatigue could have something to do with your thyroid? Usually I’m not one to dole out unrequested medical advice, but thyroid issues seem to run rampant in my family, so I’ve done some reading on the subject — and exhaustion and fatigue are symptoms of both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. Anyway, I hope you get it figured out. Sleep problems are no fun. :(
I usually get around 7-8 hours of sleep a night but at least you choose to be drowsy after classes whereas I doze off during class. :P
I like watching movies with beautiful costumes and settings because it’s glamorous and stunning while I’m watching but eventually, at the end of the movie, I have no thoughts. I wouldn’t go around recommending my friends to watch it as well as it has no underlying meaning to it so to speak.
The thing I hated the most about that movie was the ending. They make it look like she gets away!!! It’s like, no. I want to see her head on the chopping block!
The director of the MA film (Sophia Ford Coppola? That awful Virgin Suicides woman, anyway) pretty much specifically said that she wanted her film to be completely “politics free”. No, I’m not joking; she just liked the pretty dresses. >_>
Is it possible you’re not getting enough iron in your diet? Many women (especially menstruating ones) feel tired and sluggish because they lack iron. Try taking a liquid iron supplement or doubling up on your dark green leafy vegetables. :)
Also, I do remember reading in several places that the sleep you get before 12AM (or was it 2AM?) is worth twice as much as the sleep you get after. It has something to do with your melatonin production as it is produced between the hours of 10PM and 12AM apparently. I don’t know if you’re going to bed within these hours but it might be something to look into as well!
Ah, college life. It’s starting very soon for me too. I don’t know much about sleep cycles – for me, when I try to adjust my sleeping pattern (usually from a very sporadic one during school to a more stabilized one in the summer), I get very sleepy all the time, even if I get the right amount of sleep each night. Sometimes it doesn’t wear off for a while too. Though you said it’s been like that for a year or two, so it’s most likely a different case.
I heard mixed reviews about Marie Antoinette when people in my AP English class went to see it. Most had the reaction you had though – boring. A few were enchanted by the dresses too much to really notice, apparently.
Thanks everyone! I actually went to the doctor and she suggested I get a blood test. I chickened out (also: I’ll have to wake up early to get it done and I is lazy :P) FOR NOW! Maybe I’ll get it done soon anyway to see what it might be. She said that I could be a little anemic but I won’t know until I stop being such a lazy chicken. Meanwhile, I’ll take all the sleep tips to heart. :)
To Dee: -_- What? Deliberately de-politicisation? That’s so stupid! Her life IS interesting because of the politics she had to face! Bah. No wonder the film was so bare.
