Is it just me or are “widgets” the new “in thing” online? I seem to be seeing it everywhere; people talk about adding widgets to wordpress, sites that offer widgets and such. Instead of just adding extra script into your blog (in the form of plugins) you can link to third party scripts on your blog as well! I find it a little ironic that in our web 2.0 age, where the focus is on minimalism and simplicity, there appears to be more and more gadgets available to clutter up one’s (online) life.
I still read everyone’s blog posts everyone! I’ve just been lurking more than commenting. New uni semester starts back on Monday, I’m trying milk the holidays for all its worth. I hope “Intellectual Property” is as interesting as it sounds!
Edit: I’m actually not all that sure what a “widget” is either, but here’s what wiki says about it. I think the most helpful line is,
“The [widget] code brings in ‘live’ content – advertisements, links, images – from a third party site without the web site owner having to update.”
