Scarves
Craft July 11th, 2007Cable Scarf
Pattern: MimKints
Yarn: Almost two 50g balls of silver, half mohair/acrylic yarn
Cost: About AU$8

I finished it about a week ago. Took me MONTHS to finish from start, though that’s mostly due to laziness, uni and other stuff that got in the way of actual knitting. I’m quite proud of it since it was the first thing I’ve ever knitted. I should’ve made it a little longer (it’s about one metre in length) but it’s good to wear to work as it’s quite narrow and non-bulky. I realised too late that it gets scratchy to wear next to the skin (especially the neck). Oh well, I wear it over thin turtleneck tops. The cables were a pain in the ass to do with all the constant shifting of stitches but it was fun and straightforward. I’m absolutely in love with the colour (don’t think the camera quite picked it up though, I’m terrible with taking photos) but the yarn is this very lovely silver colour.
Gryffindor Scarf
This is what I’ve got so far:

Well… I’m not going to have this finished by the fifth Harry Potter movie, which I’ll probably be seeing tomorrow! Either way, I’m quite happy by how it’s turning out (IT’S SO EASY TO KNIT, especially compared to the cable scarf above) though it’s taking a very long time. It’s so massive, though I keep referencing Harry Potter movie pics and they are apparently supposed to be that wide. I’m a tiny bit frustrated that the yellow yarn is a bit too saturated compared to the movie pics but I quite like the bolder colour (even if it’s not exactly canon, sigh).

Your scarf is beautiful. In fact, for the first time in my life, I am seriously considering knitting.
If you wear a jacket/hoodie tomorrow, you could probably stuff the unfinished strands of your scarf inside, zip it up, and enjoy without guilt!
Both look great. The first looks as if it’s shop bought, it’s so amazing and the second shows that you unlike so many others share my Gryffindor pride!
*laughs* I see — you decided to tackle an exceptionally intricate pattern for your first scarf, which made it take longer. It looks BEAUTIFUL! I’m going to have to bookmark that pattern as it looks like EXACTLY the kind of thing I like… complicated cabled pattern. And it’s only 1 meter in length? o_O That’s pretty short. I like excessively long scarves myself… I just bought a plain scarf/shawl in Paris that’s soooooo long, folded in half around my neck it still reaches down a good length for me.
I want that scarf now! Hmmm. We’ll see if I have enough yarn in my stash…
To Sabrina: You should take it up! I learnt everything about knitting and crochet from online tutorials (both sites and videos available for free). If you have access to any shop that sells yarn and needles, it’s really easy to start.
Actually those strands are fringes that I deliberately put there ^^; I do tuck it in when I wear it with my coat to work though.
To Amber: I just really love the Gryffindor colours! :D
To Stephanie: I actually finished it, thinking it’s too long! After I added the fringes and tried it on I released it could stand to be a bit longer. Oh well, live and learn. You should totally make it! It’s narrow (32 stitches across) so it’s quick to simple through row after row, even with cables.
You make me want to learn how to knit! Now I just want a nice homemade scarf to wrap around my neck! Both of them are beautiful (and I suspect that they are really warm too!)
Oh nice :D They do look kinda scratchy, but beautiful nonetheless :) Did you see my pink, uh, “thing”? LOL! I’m so embarrassed about that now looking at your scarves! :-P
Wow, your stuff really looks professional. I’m so amazed and impressed. But I’ve always like your stuff, heh. I like scarves a lot, both heavy ones for winter and light ones for summer. I wish I could knit. :(
I just stumbled across your site as I was looking for the Gryffindor scarf knitting pattern. Any chance you could post a rough pattern? The colors that you’ve used look much closer to what I want than any other pattern I’ve found thus far! Thanks and keep up the great work!
