Al Gore + Kung Fu
Life, Watched May 7th, 2007Two movie-related ancedotes:
- The depressing one: I watched An Inconvenient Truth the other day, and wow talk about depressing! Al Gore pretty much convinced me we’re all going to die within the next decade or so if all governments don’t do something about le environment. It’s pretty shameful too that Australia produces 1.1% of global emissions when we have a measly 20 million people here (that’s half the population of Shanghai!). :’(
- The funny one: I watched Memoirs of a Geisha for a second time with Tim ages ago and when we were coming out of the cinema after the movie was over, I overheard two guys walking by and one of them said “man, I thought there was going to be kung fu in the movie”. Chortlerrific!

I still prefer ‘The Great Global Warming Swindle’ to be perfectly honest. I always found An Inconvenient Truth, while it can seem probable from the statistics that are shown and the pictures… I don’t know, I’m just not a firm believer in this CO2 causing the world to heat up. A common misconception amongst some people is that humans are the sole reason for Global Warming; whereas it’s a perfectly natural process, just perhaps not at this speed.
I still haven’t seen Memories of a Geisha - but, um, KUNG FU?
I’ve watched ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ about three to four times in the last two years. Apparently, all Science and Social Studies teachers insist that the movie is extremely educational and realistic, and it doesn’t matter that we’ve seen it. We get it already!
I’ve not seen ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’ yet either, but plan to soon. I couldn’t imagine kung-fu in the movie, and my imagination’s pretty wild itself.
