Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head…

Life, Musings 11 Comments »

I hate rain. There, I said it. I guess I don’t have much right to complain about rain since I live in the mostly sunny country of Australia, but it’s been raining on and off for the past week or so and I’m so sick of it! It makes everything damp and cold (argh, can’t stand the cold) and unpleasant. Believe me, I’m not an outdoorsy person, but it’s nice when the Sun is outside (and I’m inside somewhere). But now, everything is so damn gloomy and dreary and it’s such a downer.

I wish it would only rain where it’s more needed, like over our dams and the farms in the country. I certainly don’t need it! :P

(The real downer though, is that I have an essay due on Monday that’s worth 50% of the course and I have very little done on it. Argh, I’m getting such a bad essay burnout right now…)

Ultra Balm, Attack!

Life 10 Comments »

Thanks to my brother, our 7gb cable usage has been exceeded for this month and we’ll be stuck at the 28.8kbps speed for the next five days until it resets on 1st May. Oh joy. -_-

Anyway, I’ve been getting these terrible insect bites all over me lately and the itching has been monstrous. Yesterday night, my mum gave me a jar of Tiger Balm and some sort of cheaper rip off of Tiger Balm called “Ling Nam Ultra Balm”. I tried a bit of both to where it itched and OMG RELIEF!!!! The Tiger Balm was definitely more effective but I used more of the Ultra Balm because there wasn’t much Tiger Balm left. It immediately decreases the itchiness and gives it a very “minty” feel to the area. The Ultra Balm’s active ingredients include Menthol, Camphor Powder, Ecalyptol and Wintergreen Oil. Hopefully it wouldn’t do some sort of other damage to my skin. But then again, the furious scratching I’ve inflicted on my skin lately couldn’t be very good for it either.

Poetry

Been tagged by Amanda! The rules don’t state what kind of poem it has to be so here’s a limerick I whipped up.

I had a dream a few days ago,
I was partying with peeps I don’t know,
I eventually discerned,
Into zombies they’d turned,
Not the fast type but more so the slow.

True story! I tag Dee and Kudarania.

In other news Uni has started there’s the essay due tomorrow that I still have another 1400 words to write for before starting the next essay due the week after. Oh joy. It’s my mum’s birthday tomorrow!

Ugh essays

Rants, Uni 8 Comments »

I want to be a stay-at-home mum. Except… without kids (though maybe a puppy). So… okay, I guess a more accurate description is stay-at-home person. ¬_¬;

It’ll be terribly ironic if I decided to quit Uni and go on welfare RIGHT NOW because I don’t want to do an essay on social welfare due on Tuesday. What better way to argue for structural violence committed by our market-driven legal system than to actually immerse myself into it! TAKE THAT, NEOLIBERALISTS! It’ll be great, I can spend my days squirreled up in a house, watching anime and plotting out crochet patterns to make awesome plushies (like these) and miniature polymer clay sculptures (like these).

Sigh. Don’t worry that won’t happen. I’m just so jaded by this semester’s subjects (Remedies, Trade Practices Act and Taxation) that they simply pose no interest to me. I just DON’T CARE. The topic on welfare is fun to think about and discuss I guess but I don’t want to write an essay on it. Ugh it’s going to be torture waiting till next year, which is going to be so kick ass in that I’ll be able to take Intellectual Property, International Law, Legal Ethics and Litigation. Woot! But until then… WHINE WHINE WHINE!

I learnt recently that “Woot” actually is a shortening of the phrase “Wow loot!” that people who play Dungeons and Dragons say. That’s pretty awesome.

Glasses outrage

Life, Musings, World 4 Comments »

For those who wear glasses (especially if short-sighted): If you ever have your glasses off while typing, do you find you make more spelling/grammatical errors than with the glasses? I have that problem and it’s not like I’m typing blind or anything, my vision is okay when close to the monitor. But for some odd reason, what is in my head and want to be typed out has the higher chance of being completely incoherent as opposed to when I am wearing glasses. Weird. Oh well, sometimes I can’t be bothered putting my glasses on (like right now) when I blog so… that’s my excuse for having badly worded posts. :P

For those who don’t wear glasses: … LUCKY!!!!!!!

On a completely different note, this short news clip about “outrage” towards NBC for showing the Cho Seng-Hui video just strikes me as WTF. It’s just… the double standard is so staggering. Yes, the victim’s families and the VTU students/staff are in mourning and shock and it is a really tough time for them. But what RIGHT do they have to complain about the footage being shown on TV, and furthermore what rational reason do they have for not showing it, besides “wow the video really makes the whole thing real”? YES IT IS REAL. Yes, the guy was a psychopath and ended up doing terrible things. But the American media has always, ALWAYS honed onto getting their claws onto anything juicy and sensational.

If the incident, for example, happened here in Australia, would Americans complain about showing of the video to be “insensitive”? No, I bet they’d be jumping over each other to buy the rights to air it as much as possible. America (and many Western nations actually) has an incredible morbid curiousity to everything (just look at all the gossip columns and stuff), it just makes me angry how not just the victims, but the police and others more emotionally distant from the event would even start admonishing NBC for showing the video.
