Sufferage
Life March 24th, 2007Mom woke me up at 7.30 in the morning to go vote in our state election. I’m not a morning person.
This was the second time I’ve ever voted and let me tell you, the excitement is a first-time only thing. Second time… meh, lost its charm. Especially at 8 IN THE MORNING ON A SATURDAY.
Fun Fact: In Australia the two major parties we have are the “Labor” and “Liberal” parties. However, the Liberal party is the more conservative party.

That’s true, it’s only one time thing the excitement. We had elections here (Finland) last Sunday. And I didn’t even know really who I would vote. And cos I’m not so interested of news I have no idea who’s in power now. I know “Center” (somewhere between left and right) got most votes, then “National Coalition” (conservatives) and “Social Democrats” lost, but what I have learned from previous years, who wins, who loses is completely other thing than who gets the prime minister place… Hmm… I guess I should check how things are now.
It makes sense that liberal is conservative. This is my world now.
Loving the layout, by the way, although it is indeed making me rather hungry.
Unsurprisingly, the Melbourne papers made no reference to the NSW state election today.
I have to wake up at 8 in the morning on Saturdays to go to softball practice. I don’t want to wish this awful time on anyone… and then they call me at 8:20 and wake everyone else up! D’oh! Stupid people…
Why is it that you have only two major parties? And the states? Only two?!
For major parties, we have more than two – there’s the NDP (Uber liberal), The Liberals, The Tories, and I guess the Green party, although they never actually win, they still have a bit of a foothold.
*done rambling*
I’m finally old enough to vote but I think here in the Philippines, it doesn’t really matter. Voting is in May, but I think the results are already in…
I’m old enough to vote this year too, but I have no idea who to vote for. :/ I’m afraid I’m not too into Philippine politics.
That sounds frighteningly like my own mom… though she doesn’t exactly wake us up at 8 am to go vote (since, she herself wakes up at 10 at earliest). But dad and I always find something more… rewarding/interesting/you name it to do; so mom has to harp on us for two hours until we finally move just to appease her.
To Amanda: Meh, Labor party won for its 4th (I think?) term… not surprised.
To Rose: Ick, sorry about Wordpress moderating you out and all, must’ve been the links. Anyway, there are many other parties here (for instance, the Greens, the National party, etc etc) but yeah we only have two big parties who gets most of the votes. I guess it’s bipartisan like the US.
Politics scare me, I honestly have no idea what they’re all about. I won’t be able to vote until next election anyway.
