New layout?!
Site Related March 22nd, 2007Tada! New layout! Ugh, this took me so long to do and 70% of that was just having to do the coding!! Originally it was supposed to be a painless adaptation of this pretty skin but I was quick to find out that the layout more or less falls apart in IE. So I had to do the whole thing from scratch and using bits of their CSS when it worked. It didn’t help that Wordpress and IE helped trip me up every step of the way.
NOTHING MUCH WORKS AT THE MOMENT. Only the recent posts and commentage works. Few of the pages are up properly, and for some reason I’m having pages repeat themselves over and over again in older posts and with some older pages. I have no idea why that happened and further investigation is needed. I noticed the problem after the wordpress update so I don’t know if it’s a script problem or a database problem. BLARGH. I’ll get to writing and updating pages soon, including more things about this layout. Here’s a clue, I used chocolate, strawberry and vanilla ice-cream as inspiration. :P It’s debatable whether this layout or the more plain, older version is better but at least this one is (majoratively) created by me. And, yay the blog is back. :)
I do like the autosave feature in 2.1.2 of wordpress. Handy in case things go asplode. And with that, I go to bed.
Edit I updated the Post Levels plugin as well as updated my permalinks. I’m not sure which of these made it work, but I can tentatively say that the repeating entries problem is gone… I still need to make sure though. I can’t get the threaded comments to work at the moment. I thought that was a convenient script too. -_- Maybe I’ll try again some other time.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Very awesome, I love the colour scheme.
Are you using the Post Levels plugin perchance? I had the same problem with repeating entries when I upgraded and it turned out to be a problem with that plugin - the author’s released a new version now that’s friendlier with 2.1.
Woot! Love the Neopolitan colour scheme you have going here. :3 I like it a lot. XD Now maybe you can motivate me to create a new layout for my blog… but I just abhor WP coding scheme!
Absolutely beautiful. Colors are great together. I hope you get the coding work too.
Your layout induces an ice cream craving.
Oh VERY nice. I truly and honestly like it. Wordpress and IE tripping you… oh I know that feeling. It took me two months to get my current layout to work in IE, Firefox and Opera and now I’m stumped with the blog pages (only those are powered by Wordpress) in IE. So tell me your secret! :D Oh yeah, my problems are shifting links, misaligned comments and a textarea that suddenly grows extra large when people start typing in it (in IE).
Anyway, back at you - sorry for the rambling - I truly LOVE the header. And the color choice is prime. I wish I were able to chose colors so well. I’m always playing it safe and end up with lots of blank white space :P
Once again GREAT LAYOUT!
I really, really, like this one. I think it’s preferable to the more simple option that you had displayed before. Of course it’s always nice to have something that you’ve made by yourself as your theme. I’m just too lazy to do so. I’m glad that you picked the chocolate as the predominant theme colour; it’s pretty.
Belinda, it looks great! The color palette is really classy too. Good luck on getting the coding done — and yeah, the auto-save feature has saved me a couple times since upgrading. =3
To Becca: Thanks for the heads up! I updated the plugin and fiddled around with it some more so I don’t know what exactly fixed the problem but the good thing is that it seems to be gone! :D
To Tara: Ganbatte Tara! It’s pretty irritating have to work with so much unfamiliar php but it’s doable! When you have time of course. :)
To Vera: Hmmm I can help you out with some of your problems if you wish… are you customising your blog pages in their own pages.php template?
Oooooh. At first glance, yeah, this is awesome! I’m gonna go explore a bit now…but you’ve definitely got my thumbs up.
Oooh I like this! I’m a big fan of pink and brown combinations, and although I don’t like chocolate much I like how this feels as if I’m in a chocolate room. It looks really good in IE6, no mess ups anywhere :)
Yay you’re back!
Does using Post Levels mean you allow people to register for it, or that you just use it just because…? Because I didn’t know this. o.o;
@Belinda: no. I used the classical template as a base. That only has header, footer, comment, comment-popup and sidebar files.
The colours are very warm, perfect for winter (but I think that’s funny considering this is called “Neapolitan” and ice cream is cold!) Nevertheless it’s still lovely!
W00t! This is very pretty. I love how the colors work well together. ^^ Is this layout by any chance a reference to the Neapolitan ice cream?
To Stephanie: I’ll be writing up a page about why I’ve decided to put some posts not available readily to the public, but I’ll get around to that soon. But yes, some of my posts are restricted to registered readers so feel free to register (I don’t write many private posts anyway).
To Vera: Regardless of which template you use, if you want to modify your pages look you need to upload a pages.php into the folder with your theme in it. Then you can alter the look of pages via this file (like any of your other template files) so things are aligned.
To Anne: Yup. :D
ooooh, I like it! I really do! Very clean, nice colors, readable. All good things! I really like the way you have the archives set up over there with the months and the calendar on one side and the categories on the other. That’s neat, I may steal that, lol. I don’t think my sidebar is wide enough though. Oh it’s just so neat and tidy, I love it!
*stares* erm… and the pages.php should look like what? A completely normal html file? Couldn’t you please send me a sample? *grovels | puppy dog eyes*
The only problem I think I have with the layout is the fact that its so wide, it sidescrolls if my window isn’t maximized. But other than that [which I can definitely live with], I really love the new layout. Its a beautiful combination of colors.
Oooh, nice layout! Makes me hungry for some ice-cream. Neapolitan always reminded me of Napoleon, so doubly yay!
I love threaded comments! I wonder why they aren’t working? It was just a quick-easy installation for me.
Your site name reminds me of the Spice Girls! :)
To Vera: Check your email if you haven’t already!
To Mei Zhu: This is the first layout I’ve made that side scrolls on 800×600 *shame*. However, it should just fit on 1024×768… I didn’t account for people not having maximised windows though. Next, time, thinner layout. :P
To Rafia: The threaded comments plugin I linked to gives me a javascript error. I don’t know whether that’s because of my upgrade to wordpress 2.1.2 or this layout. Either way, I’m considering finding another thread-comments plugin. And yes, the site name IS from a Spice Girls song. ^^;
As always, your layouts amaze me. I particularly LOVE the color scheme… makes me hunger for ice cream!
