Extra domain name…
Craft, Site Related January 15th, 2007Because I’m with Dreamhost for hosting, they gave me a free domain name with the plan. However, I still haven’t used it yet because I don’t need one. I’ve currently (and by currently I mean today) been thinking of maybe registering it to make a crafting log? I’m currently very much enthused about crocheting, I’m in the process of learning how to knit and I still love origami.
The only problem is, do I need another blog? I would probably post in it regularly at least in the beginning but how long would it last? Once Uni starts again I really doubt I’d have much time for regularly updating a craft log since crafting projects would trickle to a slow.
My other idea is to maybe make the crafting log a creative project and invite others to write in it too? There are a few people I know who are into making various crafty things yet I’m unsure about whether they’d like to co-own such a site.
The other alternative is to give away the domain to another person (it’s only one year free though, after a year you’d have to pay for it)… but I don’t know who’d want something like that. Argh, decisions decisions.
In other news, TIP TO CROCHETERS: don’t buy plastic hooks. I broke my 5.5mm hook today; it just snapped in half in the middle of crocheting. -_-; Invest in decent metal/wooden hooks!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I did the same thing. I made another blog dedicated to learning basic Korean, but my interest shifted back to Japanese, so now it’s pretty much dead. If you’re not sure if you can commit yourself to it consistently, I say don’t start another blog.
I suggest making a special category in this blog though, just for crafty posts. Then maybe you can just link it somewhere. Or you can make a section for it.
Personally, I’d rather post my crafts on my own site, but if you’re going to share a crafts site with others, I’d love to chip in. ^^
Aww I’m sorry about your plastic hooks. Anyway, I’d love to see a craft blog there aren’t that many.
Well… uh… just try it? I mean… it is free? XD Or give it to a hostee who wants free domain hosting… That’s what I’m doing with my free domain thing.
That’s a very good point! I haven’t thought about that… I think I’m gonna give it a go then! No harm done if it doesn’t work out. :D
BTW, the free domain thing? It’s free every year if you renew your hosting with Dreamhost (and pay yearly at least…I think). My friend’s domain who I host? It’s been free ever since I registered it back in …. …. 2002?! So every year, I just leave it to renew automatically and it renews for free. :3
Holy shite, that’s so cool! Waaah I really hope it’s the same for me!! Dreamhost is awesome. :3
There definitely aren’t enough crochet-related craft weblogs out there (I know, I’m obsessed with looking at pictures of yarn and have searched… a lot… there’s a HUGE knitting weblog community, but crochet? no). It’d be neat to have a collaborative domain, especially if it may become too much for you to keep up with. It’s too boring to have a weblog that isn’t updated regularly.
I know I’ve also thought about creating a crafts-weblog before, too, but I really don’t think I’d be able to keep up with two weblogs. :/ I’m barely keeping up with Sunbeam Soapbox, I feel so sorry for it… x.x;
And I don’t crochet enough lately. ._.
It’s a tough decision. I wouldn’t make another blog, but that’s just me - one is enough (maybe too much sometimes ;_;).
I seriously need to relearn how to crochet.
Did I say don’t start a new blog? I meant do. Really. What I really meant was yes, start a new collaborative crafting weblog!
See? She agrees with me! XD
A craft blog seems like a great idea, I’d love to see the implemented! I don’t think it’s really a must that you update it really often, so uhm…
