Merry Christmas and All that Jazz
Craft, Life, Photos, Watched December 25th, 2006(Mostly cross-posted from LJ)
Merry Christmas! I’m looking forward to watching Happy Feet when it comes out!! :D And to make this post not so meaningless, here’s a picture of the crocheted bag I finished yesterday night:

I’m pretty happy with it, since it’s the first major thing I’ve crocheted. It took me too bloody long to complete, at several times I had to unravel the whole thing and start from the beginning. The top and bottom bits that look scraggly are actually shell patterns that didn’t turn out at all when the photo was taken with the crappy camera on my phone. The book on the top-right is where I got the pattern from (I bought the book for AU$12 though the price tag said $34.95! :D). It took exactly two balls of yarn to make. Stephanie made a much nicer looking bag from the same pattern I believe, but ah well I’m still just a beginner n00b. :P
Tim bought me My Fair Lady as a Christmas present a little while ago and gosh I do love that movie! The music numbers are all so catchy and Mr. Higgins is the most delightfully witty character ever! And Audrey Hepburn is absolutely stunning in the movie too (she’s so pretty but I definitely prefer her in this role than the one in Breakfast at Tiffany).

Crocheeet!
I’m learning myself! It’s so dificult x_x I try…I really try.. but it’s too dificult xP
Merry Christmas!
Yeah it was a very frustrating but ultimately rewarding experience for me. It really all just takes time and a dash of patience. :P
The item you crocheted is impressive. I once tried to crochet a scarf. Bad.
The first thing I crocheted was a “bookmark”. It’s in quotation marks because it actually turned out to be this gross mess of stitches that flopped about and looked terrible. It just takes practice (a lot of practice in my case) to get it right.
MERRY HOLIDAYS!
Dang, awesome bag. I really need to take up crocheting again …
Oh do! It’s fun! I’m thinking of maybe trying knitting soon too. :D
Oh, wow - it really IS the same pattern! I made that while I had the Stitch ‘n Bitch crochet checked out from the library. And we used the same colors, too! If I remember correctly the example one was PINK. Ugh, I couldn’t stand that color.
Your bag looks really nice, too. Sturdy. I’m having a problem with mine not being too sturdy, and sturdy is good in a purse.
And geez, it’d be way nice to get that book for less than half the price it says… I have -zero- crochet books. And six knitting books. It’s too unbalanced.
Oooh lucky that you have it in your library! My library have very few crochet books and most of them are of very plain or ugly patterns. I initially didn’t want to buy the book because it seemed so expensive but it was going to be a Christmas present to myself. I was delighted to see it was reduced that much!
And yes that pink that was used looks absolutely terrible. =/ I didn’t use nylon either, it was too expensive I think I used garden variety yarn instead.
Waaah it’s so cool how you know how to knit too! I’d love to get into that someday. There are certainly many more knitting books than crochet, I’ve found.
That’s definite, about being more knitting books than crochet. And then I’ve found people grumbling about not getting knitting books, and I’m like, come on. Go to a bookstore and look around, instead of a chain craft store. Because the bookstore has somewhere between one and zero crochet books.
I’d love to find a cool crochet book; I’m not sure The Happy Hooker lived up to my expectations. The first Stitch ‘n Bitch was really really good. And then the author seemed to be tired of writing for the crochet version and wrote… badly. e.e; I really wish there was a revival in crochet like in knitting! I want more patterns.
Speaking of, do you by any chance know of crochetme.com? So far it’s the best online crochet magazine I’ve found. Pretty cute patterns, but it’s hard to navigate the archives. :/
Yes I really like crochet-me! It’s so great how they have free patterns that DON’T look like garbage.
I was a tiny bit disappointed with the Happy Hooker too in that many of the patterns had things I simply wouldn’t wear (like the bikini) but the patterns are nonetheless nice. I look enviously at the other Stitch and Bitch books but alas, I don’t know how to knit yet so I’m pretty much confined to crocheting ATM. I’ve seen a few crochet magazines, but I haven’t had a good flick through them yet to see if they’re any good.
Great bag!!! Very good work!!!
I want to see Happy Feet too!!! On an IMAX movie teater if posible *O*
That bag looks pretty good. I didn’t notice the “scraggles” until you pointed them out, or could it just be my untrained eyes? :P My best friend and I were thinking off starting up crocheting or knitting. Any tips we might find useful? :D
Happy Feet was really good on the first half, and then it just made no sense. It’s not as happy-happy as the trailers make it out to be.
Just look up tutorials! It’s really not that difficult if you learn it step by step although it’s really really good if you can get some kind of actual person showing you what to do (my mum can crochet a bit and she’s taught me a few tricks). Practice makes perfect!
I like Happy Feet a lot, but I didn’t care too much about dancing-penguins-saving-the-Antarctic-from-overfishing spiel. The penguins are adorable, especially the Latino sounding ones. :D
