Pretty women?
Site Related, World October 18th, 2006My ulcer from the picture before has almost totally healed and it stopped hurting about a week ago. Non-pain is absolutely sweet compared to agony. :P
I know it’s all over the internet now, but I want to bring attention to a video posted by Shorelle a few days ago regarding the Dove Evolution. No, it’s not a documentary about birds, but a really insightful, quick and surprising look at how easily and extensively “model” pictures are touched up. It really goes to prove that not only can anyone look conventionally “beautiful” with the right makeup, lightning and graphics program, but how in the end it doesn’t actually look like you but just some creature that has been rendered to look as societially “pleasing” as possible. Scarily enough, the end result of that video isn’t even a photo of a terribly made up woman, just a quick flick of many womens’ magazines reveal ads of even more alien, airbrushed and fake-looking models. I don’t mind looking at pretty pictures of models (whether real, drawn or CGI) but it’s disconcerting and sad when people strive to look like something that, in reality, doesn’t normally start off looking like that in nature.
Anyway, I was going to register the free domain name that comes with my dreamhost package for a friend but now he’s registered for his own package and domain name. So what can I do with the extra name? Should I splurge and get something I probably won’t renew next year? What’s the point? Maybe I can make a competition and have that as the prize. Speaking of domain names, remember kids, for those who are going to register a name, DON’T USE WHOIS to search for availability unless you’re going to register the name straight away. I’ve repeatedly heard cases of people searching for a name then days later to have the originally freed up name taken by those domain hoarding companies that makes you pay heaps to buy the name from them.
I’ve updated the “extras” section with a page of forums and non-forum activities I have and do participate in. Hmmm no wonder I spend so much time online. :P
Oh and before I go, today’s Newground’s top submission is a cute little flash movie about online dating called Less Than Three. While nothing too wowing, it’s sugary cute and the song is catchy. “~Let’s meet here on IRC, LOLOL~”. :D

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I’m glad that you’re feeling better, I usually get laryngitis & colds xD
I agree with you about how models these days are constantly being touched-up. This is from a photographer’s POV as well, because whenever I shoot people they’re constantly asking me if I can change how they look in photoshop. It annoys me, just because I don’t always pick my models based on how thin they are, but whether or not they interest me. On most models, it looks obvious too & I think they look like mutants if you can’t see a single pore on them.
Glad you’re better!
I’ve also seen that video, and all I can say is I hope it brings some peace of mind to girls out there. Why emulate someone who’s obviously fake? It’s interesting to finally see an expose of how things really work in the media. Along with the recent thin ban in Madrid, the perception of beauty is changing. Perhaps not so dramatically, but it’s definitely raising awareness among the public.
I’ve always known that those model’s pictures are being touched up, it even happens with celebrities. Anyway, I’m glad you’re all better :P
It’s great that you feel much better now! And well, you can sell the domain or do another site.. don’t know really.
I really like the message from the video..
and i want to edit like that =P
I’m glad your ucler has healed :) I heared some stories too about that whois stuff… pretty weird.
I like the new pages you created, it’s a neat idea. And now I discovered that you are Belinda from DMB :P
I cant believe what models do. They are so pretty on magazines but then in real life…
i’m not surprised about the model issue, the saddest thing really is that a lot of people are pressuring (and ruining) themselves because they so want to be like the pictures in the magazine and they choose to ignore that these pictures are just manipulated to create a fantasy because it really isn’t real. sad.
the competition for the domain name sounds like a really good idea, you’ll get rid of it and there’ll be some nice interaction as well.
I wish I had an extra domain, I’m starting to not like my domain name but oh well. I have it til next July I think lol. Good luck with your decision in the end! :)
