Fire, chicken and alcohol
Anime/Comics, Life, World January 9th, 2004Listening to: “Impromptu in A Sharp” by Shubert. Awesome piano skills. O_O
Gah, Sydney smells like a barbeque again. I guess we’re already fortunate that bushfire season began a bit later, as last year was much worse, fires all over the place by Christmas. At least more families were able to have their New Year in relative peace. The fires are too close to me (perhaps about a 30 minute drive) but because of the strong winds, the smoke is very smellable. Really hope it dies down. Fucking arsons should find a better hobby.
I was watching a current affairs program today, and it brought up this interesting topic. Apparently, a chain of food stores selling chicken has come up with a catchy new slogan to target more healthy eaters, with the phrase “no fat chicks”. People have been very angry over this, as they see it as discriminatory towards overweight people (read more). When I first saw the slogan, I didn’t think it was targeted at overweight people or deliberately making fun of them. I thought it was quite a catchy pun, a tongue-in-cheek play over the sensitive issue of obesity. But then again, perhaps some people see it as unfair jabbings. Ah but with all sensitive issues, they have both sides eh? What do you think?
Went over to Fiona’s today and came to 3 conclusions.
1. Reconfirmed my belief that Studio Ghibli is probably the most awesome anime company in existence. Watched Nausicaa and Grave of the Fireflies, I personally loved the latter, it was very touching and disquieting in the typically elegant way of Studio Ghibli.
2. Playing (and watching) Street Fighter makes me very dizzy.
3. Alcohol isn’t as bad as I thought it to be. In fact, it is veerrrry nice. :D Well, I’ve only had a bit of Baileys and some other one, and it makes me happy. The former is addictive, the intial taste a bit icky, but the after taste is mmmmm nice. ^^ Being sober is a very refreshing contrast, but being a bit tipsy is exhilirating too. It’s a bit like going high when stressed except without the stress part. Mmm… must try again someday.

I didn’t think it was discriminatory or made fun of obese people, but that’s probably I don’t lead my life with a fear of people and media poking fun at my weight. People who actually are overweight would be sensitive to anythings with even the slightest correlation to weight, and I guess they blow up their reactions to these things out of proportion. The slogan doesn’t only target obese people ’cause there are also people interested in ‘no fat chicks’ for health reasons, not weight reasons. Plenty of thin people contain more fat than muscle. And for those people, the slogan is pretty catchy indeed.
Studio Ghibli over Disney anytime. Pixar, too, from which I reckon Disney is claiming all the credit. Street Fighter is awesome, yes… but Vega is sooo hot! *o* Looks like I’ve gotten you hooked on alcoholic drinks. Umm… whoops. XD Prepare to pour a good deal of money into liquer shops soon!
“No more fat chicks,” that’s really cool! But I understand how people would get sensitive about it and all. Geesh.
Forest fires…. -_-
Liquor? o_o;
Hmm, I can see how some people might take offense to the “no fat chicks” slogan. Some people are a lot more sensitive to their weight than others, and we wouldn’t want to cause any more insecure girls to go anorexic on us. o.o
Whatever the reason, I don’t think it’s wise for the company to be advertising under that slogan. They’re going to get a lot of lawsuits. XD;;
Ah, Grave of the Fireflies. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time. *_* Very touching indeed. I see the box of candy thingy at Chinatown these days and I have to resist the urge to buy it. ^^;;; They’re pretty expensive.
I never liked the taste of alcohol, and I dispise the scent of alcohol on one’s breath. XD;
Ah. You talked about two of my favorite subjects: Studio Ghibli and alcohol.
Yay to getting hooked on both.
Gah. Fire. O.O
‘No fat chicks’ ? Sounds somewhat derogatory I guess. Not as cruel as other things though. I find it amusing. ^^
:P The only alcohol I’ve had is sips of wine and my mom’s cough medicine. ^^ One part honey, one part lemon, and one part Kentucky straight bourbon. ^_^ Works and tastes a lot better than any OTC cough medicine I’ve ever tried. Leaves you with a nice warm feeling too. ^^ Heh heh.
ALCOHOL = GOOD
BAHAMA MAMA = BETTER
SEX ON THE BEACH = THE BEST!!!
note: sex on the beach is a name of a cocktail drink. ask for “a sex on the beach” and not just “sex on the beach” otherwise the waiter/waitress will say “i can’t right now i’m working. how about tonight?” :P yup that happened to me! ^^
